sketches

"But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines- it will shine out the clearer"

I find that when im in class, i actually listen to lectures better when i'm drawing.. .. .. it helps me focus in on listening- instead of looking around and observing something else.
Call me crazy. But it works often :)
These are some landscape illustrations i have been doing the last couple weeks.
With these drawings i'm kind of exploring fantasy story-like ideas and illustrations... but a lot of the inspiration comes from real landscape.

Angus and Julia Stone are a brother sister band i cannot stop listening to.
love their lyrics.
love their style.
love their album artwork. . .

sometimes i just really appreciate a good couple singer/songwriters who give me some good ol' folk melodies.

the album artwork is so storybook'ish. i love it. alot of their music videos have a similar whimsical feel.

God'll Ne'er Let You Down

Sometimes i wonder how in the world am i going to live being an artist. Honestly, i don't know if it is God's will that i will make a career out of art. But for now, that's the plan. I'm studying it, practicing, and learning many aspects of the art world. I keep trying to tell myself that i want to wake up to a job that i love doing and that is rewarding. So, despite some fears, I'm going to do my best at striving at becoming better and find out what God wants to do with my life. I will trust that He won't let me down- and will guide me to a life that will Glorify His name.

the words of this sufjan stevens song are fantastic. . .
"Everyday, He'll never let you down
Chase His name, He'll never let you down
When the black turns into white
Never turn your back, the bowl is full of light
Seek His face, He'll never let you down
Worship Grace, He'll never let you down"

Swoop Down From the Sky and Catch Me Like a Bird of Prey

This is a poster i designed for my digital tools class last semester.
The background is a painted piece of paper i crumbled and scanned into the computer. For the sun and clouds i painted them on a separate piece of paper and scanned them into the computer. The landscape and bird i drew on illustrator and transferred them into photoshop to place them over the background. This was actually one of my favorite projects!
" To send light into the darkness of men's hearts- such is the duty of the artist"- Schumann

Shadow Box/ Painting Project

This image is not a very good photograph to view this project. It's a 3 dimensional plexy glass box (that's why it's reflecting light).
There is a canvas placed inside. I used acrylic paint for the scene and then put foam on some parts to pop parts of the painting out. The flowers at the bottom are all individually constructed out of paper and foam.

(at the bottom there is a piece of blue foam :(, it was supposed to be placed by the other clouds but fell...)

Color Scheme Project

This was another 2d painting project. The goal was to take a photograph of something that looks relatively abstract and then paint it in four color schemes: complimentary, monochromatic, analogous, and split complimentary. Although the image my be hard to tell, it's a fence with piping that lines the netting of a baseball field.
This was a painting done in my 2d class this past semester. We were required to have a floral pattern, pinstripes, at least 5 silhouetted images, and text.
